Unknown maker. Photograph of Willow Shade, with Cather family on the porch and in the front yard, circa 1875. Willow Shade was the home of William and Emily Ann "Caroline" Smith Cather, the grandparents of Willa Cather, prior to their move to a Nebraska homestead in 1877. This photo was given to Meta Schaper Cather, the widow of Roscoe Cather, in 1951. The sender identifies Charles and Mary Virginia Cather, a very young Willa Cather, and Elizabeth "Bess" Seymour.
"Auntie Sister" is Sarah Boak Seymour Andrews, the older sister of Mary Virginia Cather
