Unknown maker, circa 1878. Though the George Cather Farmstead later boasted a 27-room, 3 1/2 story home, in its early days, the farm was more modest. George and Frances Smith Cather endured wild swings between prosperity and poverty, dictated by the weather and crops. Early homestead records show that two smaller houses pre-dated the large house that sits on the property today.
